      Hello /r/GlobalOffensive,

yesterday I was streaming and through the stream chat "who are you" offered me to play with him, advertising that he would be at Global Elite.

Today, Sunday evening, 7th June, 2015, he and 3 other Global Elite players invited me into their lobby to play with them and wanted me to join their TeamSpeak3 server. After connecting to the TeamSpeak3 server I was prompted to update my sound driver which led to the download of an executable TROJAN.

Here are all of the screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/ixa9l

Below you find links to the players' Steam profiles and their associated Steam-IDs:

      https://steamcommunity.com/id/hyskeeewow/ (STEAM_0:1:93572082)

      https://steamcommunity.com/id/mryalld (STEAM_0:1:41676700)

      https://steamcommunity.com/id/Rihyshnators (STEAM_0:0:73380854)

      https://steamcommunity.com/id/TACHOXXXXXXX (STEAM_0:1:30507543)

Fortunately, they didn't change their profile names immediately so I could find them all by searching through Steam. Each of them have more than 400 wins in matchmaking, 1000+ hours in CS:GO and one has pages full of +rep comments on his profile. However, contrary to how legitimate they seem, they clearly participate in scamming others!

Of course, I will inquire Steam support and try to get them permanently banned, but I am not sure if my evidence will suffice. I cannot guarantee that this way of scamming will lead to any repercussions through Steam alone. It would be far more effective if you would also report their profiles and made comments. Other users need to be made aware.

I hope I depicted their technique well enough for you all to understand and learn how to avoid it in the future. Stay wary.

      Yours,

      Jar.
